Hi guys,

so as the title says, purolator makes one of the world finest oil filters, and i was wondering if anyone here is interested in a group buy?

Currently in Victoria, AutoPro auto chain stores are the ONLY ones selling this stuff, and with the demise of their stores within the metro area this Jan2008, i really dont feel like driving to the country side for my closest store.

So in anycase, after emailing the distro in Sydney about it, he wanted to call me direct i think to sort out a direct purchase via delivery. Call is currently pending.

I know autobarn and repco are just some of the chains here selling decent oil filters such as k&n, blitz and others, but they are just too expensive - $21-$23.

Purolator Pure One oil filter is of better construction to the hyped up k&n filter but its cost less - they used to rrp at supercheap for 15.99 to 16.99.

This is their aussie website http://www.purolator.com.au/

and this is such some of what the web has to offer in terms of results and performance of these filters:

There is no guarantee that purolator australia currently distributes the Pure One filter, but they definitely distribute their Premium Plus filters, which results are here:

The premuim plus brand is cheaper, and less effective, but for the cost, one is getting fine value, and it still beats the dodgy k&n filters from the test results.

a group buy would be awesome, it just means it will be cheaper for all of us.

PM me for EOI's.

cheers!

i would be interested, but according to this guy the denso filters are basically the same as the purolator filters. toyota oil filters are made by denso, so there wouldn't really be much of an advantage for me, considering toyota oil filters only cost $16

har har!

sorri mate. i confused you with the denso filters.

the denso filters review in that site are the japanese or us made ones.

the denso toyota genuine filters here are made in thailand.

and all bad things have been had from toyota genuine filters made in thailand.

if you saw my other thread here you wouldve seen what the made in thailand toyota genuine filters are made of - cheap nasty construction

Note the lack of an end cap on the media cylinder...the pleats are glued together on the ends to prevent flow from getting around the media at the top/bottom creases. The by-pass valve is built into the top leaf spring and relies on the leaf spring to hold it against the center tube...it is inferior to the PureOne and even more so to the Wix. The ADBV is black nitrile. Compare construction of this filter to the PureOne above...there's a huge difference. Plus the media used in the Denso filter continues the trend...it is slightly better than a Fram Extra Guard. This filter was designed to be mass produced cheaply...not near the quality of the above filters. Next time you hear "Toyota filters are FTW!", point this thread out to them

i would steer clear of gen toyota oil filters made in thailand. with a small a$$ end cap compared to other premuim filters, and the fact that the pleats were glued together, man, thats just shocking. its always in the same thread. things made in asia are always 2ndgrade quality to things made in japan.

if you love your toyota and are free from the manufacturers warranty, do yourself a favour.

the Pure One scored higher than the denso japan filter, and the premium plus filter scored 2 spots below the denso.

Edit: for $16, i'd rather save that $6 and just get a ryco filter....
