Hi Guys,

Has anyone got any facts as to when the peak torque for the new sportivo is at its max i.e. rpms ????? Anyone with a new one can you have a look in your manual ???

The new american XRS seems to have moved its mark from 6800 to 4400

New-for-2005 tweaks see its modest 127 lb.-ft. of torque peak at a more usable 4,400 rpm compared to the previous 6,800 count. But its 170 horsepower still crests at a lofty 7,600 rpm. In the real world, it means this free-revving little jewel only delivers serious thrust from about 7K on up to its 8,200-rpm redline.

A decidedly aggressive right foot and some facility at negotiating its slightly nocxhy shift linkage should reward XRS drivers with 0-60 mph times in the high 7-second range. But even holding gears until the tach needle sweeps to the red zone can't prevent the same frustrating affliction that also plagues the top-gun Celica and Matrix models. No matter how quickly you shift, the rev count ends up dipping to about 6,000, and the exhilaration gets put on hold for a count or two until the engine climbs back up onto the cam.

The new Corolla XRS will be powered by a 1.8 liter four-cylinder DOHC engine that produces 170 hp and 127 lb-ft of torque. The engine will deliver broader and stronger mid-range torque (the main short-coming of previous versions), but remains a typically high-revving engine with most power available in the 6,000 to 7,800 rpm range. The improvement in mid-range output helps cut the zero-to-sixty time to below eight seconds

Peak horsepower (SAE net @ rpm): 170 @ 7,600 = about 127 KW

Peak torque (SAE net @ rpm): 127 @ 4,40 = about 172 NM

Curb weight, lb: 2,670 = about 1210 KG

If these are the figures and they are getting sub 8's then our sportivo with more power and more torque will be getting close to low 7's

If that weight is correct then it's about 14kg lighter than the previous model?

Anybody verify that?

hey silver,

the xrs is a sedan so that might explain the weight difference

cheers

This is the XRS, which will have a (de)retuned 2ZZ-GE for middle range torque. Hence the lower power figures and peak torque at lower rpm. But the 2005 Sportivo here in Aus still gets the original 2ZZ-GE with 189hp and peak torque at 6800rpm.
