Has anyone done any track time in their TRD?

Did you upgrade your brake pads from the factory ones?

Just wondering what people have used on the track as the factory pads are fairly soft to reduce disc wear and reduce noise.

Drove fairly hard through the hills today and the factory pads didn't fill me with confidence so looking to upgrade before I think about any track days !

I did a track day in mine, the brakes held up very well. The brakes are one of the better parts of the car, in fact! They are one of the best brakes I've felt in any car, and they are extremely resistent to fade. I once did a Nebo run and because my tyres were so worn, the VSC was constantly braking for me and by the time I was done, there was smoke coming out of the brakes. Even then they still performed as per normal.

If you feel that yours are getting a little soft on the braking, bring it in to Toyota and get them to replace your brake pads. I did mine just before the track day. The brake pads they use are the Ferodo HP 1000 which are also used in the new Meserati coupe. It cost about $550 for both front and rear.

I run Ferrodo 2500 in my corolla, and they slashed my lap times considerably.

Proven and highly recommended, they are very dusty though. I think it looks tough JDM style have front wheels black.

Yep, they are really dusty...have to be cleaned weekly. The good thing about having gunmetal-coloured rims is that people don't notice! The annoying thing is try to reach behind the rim to clean the caliper. The TRD calipers are red which make it look very daggy when dirty. Blasting with water doesn't get rid of all the dust.

Thanks,

Yes must admit my brakes didnt fade just felt a little soft in general and was wondering how they would hold up around a track.

I still have plenty of pad left but will get replacements before venturing out.

Guess I am used to a more aggressive brake feel in my circuit car.

I agree the gunmetal grey wheels are handy to hide the dust but require regular cleaning, I take mine off weekly and wash them front and back.

Cheers
