Long hard road…
What a week in the land of Toyota Ownership. I freely admit I’ve not done much with cars for a few months. Life has a way of working itself in ebbs and flows of good and bad. Sadly in our household we’re in the bad swing with no one’s friend Cancer turning up for a visit, a need to find another place to live in a torrid rental market etc. Anyhow, important Toyota business. You all know I’ve been sceptical of the “diagnosis” Toyota made during the scheduled service. I mean a blind Freddy knows trying to claim the rear wiper blades need replacement shoes a complete disregard for the customers intelligence. So I finally sent Sebastian for a visit with a local workshop, one linked with a large motoring body, and coincidently where a mate works as a Service Adviser. The brief was simple. Check the stuff Toyota claimed, and if there was any merit in it, do the work. While you’re there do the full transmission service anyway. Within 2 hours of drop-off I had the call “mate there’s nothing wrong with it, can’t fault it”. So with a bit of self satisfaction I gave the nod for the gearbox service and picked him up the next day (my choice). In full disclosure, something wasn’t quite right, so I popped back in today just before closing to make arrangements to have him checked next week. Nope, straight into the workshop, checked, my “not quite right” confirmed as being a legitimate feeling. 40 minutes after they were supposed to close I was driving away and it was right. The problem? Maybe 250ml of transmission fluid short of the “correct” level as determined with all the Toyota warm it, poke it til it goes sploosh method. How this happened? Maybe some trapped air, maybe someone just misjudged the sploosh. Whatever. Fixed now and smooth quiet shifting once more.- 1

U66OE tranny acts weird
Hi Roice, Have you serviced the transmission? changed the fluid and filter? the idea of a sealed for life transmission is not true as what do you regard as a lifetime sealed transmission? I am sure others will throw their brilliant minds to this issue for you as well but at least we can eliminate things if you provide more information about service history. So let us know what you can about what the issue is as in noises does it jump in other gears besides 2nd gear things like that. KAA -

Engine Starving for Diesel
Hey all, never used this stuff before, so apologies for any errors, omissions or covering of old topics. I have a 2006 SR5 Diesel, starts and runs fine most of the time however after driving for some time (about 1hr) it experiences all the symptoms I would associate with fuel starvation. While driving on the F4 (100+) it will cut out, shunt and rattle like the injectors have no fuel. When stopping at lights it will shudder and sometimes stall (injectors rattle also) Starting again takes time like it was self priming At times when accelerating off from lights it will labour to reach speed (like there is a governor fitted). Please note NONE of these symptoms exist on a cold engine or short run? Fuel is from random places, I have an accessory water trap (no water evident). I DO also have an issue with the the factory water trap, that being 1. When off the priming pump is firm, when running the pump knob is down and can be lifted up and down (no pressure at all?) Vehicle drives fine until a long drive is attempted. 2. The water light comes on, I check (no water) I drain just to be sure (no water) I reset the light and a day or so later . . . water light comes on? Has anyone experienced this problem? I have had several mechanics look at it but none can find the problem?
