04 sportivo replace ecu without dealership coding it ?

Recommended Posts

sorry if its been discussed before but i cant find answer...

really simple question...

can i remove my 04 sportivo 2zz-ge ecu and replace with another exactly the same (to see if mine faulty)..without having to recode the ecu and transponder etc....????

i have been told that the new/replacement/spare ecu must be coded to the transpnder system?

when you buy a new key it has to be coded to the cars ecu or it wont work so i think the answer is obvious

If its genuinely just to diagnose a fault, then your best bet is to swap the ecus and the ignition barrels. That way no recoding or key cutting is necessary. Its a simple 5 minute job to swap the barrels if you actually have the keys and are not just a thief. And no, I wont tell you how to get the barrel out if you dont have the key

ok?....so why would a car thief want to swap a ecu? and i know exactly how to remove the barrel/bypass factory transponder system etc, been fixing cars for almost 15 years....just rebuilt 3 04 -06 corolla's...but the replacement ecu i got came with no key!! and if i coiuld have got the key and receiver ring then i would have just swapped as i know how easy it is....

so is simple to change key/immobiliser without a ecu swap/recode........but to replace ecu we have to get toyota to code it??!!....easy to steal a corolla just hard to replace a broken ecu..........MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL HEY??

any one in perth with a non facelift sportivo want to allow me to try ecu and key swap to see if my car problem is ecu related????? will pay for your trouble and i am mechanic/insured and will take as little as 10 mins????

took ages to find a ecu and toyota arent very helpful at all
