kicker subwoofer problem

Hey all. I have a 12" kicker comp subwoofer which plays fine at low/medium levels. If the bass hits hard at a deep level it would just 'pop'. like its playing, everythings fine, then 'pop' and it stops. thats the best way i can describe the sound. the sub stops playing for 3/4 seconds then it starts playing and it repeats itself like that until i turn the volume down. i know its not the amp because i got a spare sub at home which i hooked it up to and plays fine with that. The amp is an alpine monoblock. Is it possible that my sub is about to blow?

When you say you tested it with another sub, did you test it to the same volume?

I'm saying this because what you may be getting here is your amp protection jumping in which will essentially turn it off to try and save itself.

yeah i read that on another website as well. which i thought was the case at first but after testing i turned the volume up until the sub started sounding pretty horrible. but still it was playing. then i turned it down and it was still playing. After that i put the kicker in and it played at low levels but turning it up gave the pop again so i keep it at a reasonable level. is it possible i need to adjust my gain, lpf and bass boost correctly?

because today i was in the car with the windows down, and noticed with sound from the outside i could barely hear anything. turned my volume up and pop again. So should i readjust everything but at a higher volume?
