hard to start ?

Hi all, my mums got a 1989 Camry 4 cyl, lately it takes quite a few turns of the key to before she actually starts running, it sounds strong battery/ ignition wise but seems like its not getting the amount of fuel it needs to kick over, once its going it runs fine.

any suggestions what could be causing this would be appreciated

Could be one of a number of things but an easy starting point would be to look at the plugs and check the leads. Not knowing your knowledge of mechanics from there on it gets a little more tricky, EI checking fuel delivery, as the system should be under pressure which should be released before checking especially if the motor is hot. A good mechanic should be able to pick up the problem quite cheaply.

Thank you for your reply, I will check the plugs and leads, I have just been told that it is only hesitant to start from cold start, once its been driven she starts up normally, shall see what happens .

Sounds like it's taking a while for the fuel to get going. Possible pump and injectors... who knows really.
