AE112 lacklustre

Recommended Posts

I just got given a 2001 gold limited edition turbo rolla i believe its a - AE112R.

Sure its got a 5-8psi turbo with a tiny fmic but its quite a lacklustre setup which would be lucky to be dynoing at 100kw's im thinking.

very torque based turbo and chuggy on the rev ranges.

My question is what have people done to revive this setup ? (other than move to the newer vvti/li platform)is there many bolt on mods for this engine apart from adding a much bigger turbo?

Any suggestions are helpfull :)

120,000km engine owned by old people and well looked after.

You could go for the 'usual' turbo mods... CAI, exhaust, dump pipe, boost controller... that should help get you some more power, but aren't the turbos in these things tiny? Like CT12's or something silly like that?

Im sorry I gotta get something straight. You were given one of these???

What number is yours?

I have the same Sportivo turbo model, and id definitely reccommend the upgrade of the turbo and manifold (as ive done this and is a massive upgrade!), changing the restrictive exhaust, getting rid of the stupidly long intake pipe and a Boost controller set to 10psi or less :)

Theres really no bolt on mods for this car, if you want to upgrade it will have to be custom work. Unless you open it all up and put in stronger rods and pistons and running a larger turbo and more boost :P

Post pics im intrigued to see yours :)

Karl.

EDIT: They run an IHI RHF4 Turbo one of the smallest that they make.

Ok that's pretty much the size of it 'new turbo'. its number 38 of 110. yes its definately one.

From the looks of the turbo i imagined it was small and yeah the manifold looks ugly. It has a 2.5inch catback with a reasonable muffler though which is a bonus i guess, but on this turbo totally useless. it needs at least a vf28-vf34!

I have a spare t-piece boost controller and gauge but no point overboosting it yet till i get a compression test on this engine and see where it stands.
