'67 crown disc brake upgrade

loz 67

Recommended Posts

My Daughter has bought a 1967 crown that is in great condition except for the brakes .

all of the slave cylinders are leaking,as is the master cylinder.

It will be Quite costly to repair, so I am keen on upgrading to disc brakes.

can anyone advise me what models I can source parts from & any problems to watch out for.

Hey Dude ive got a 64 crown RS41 and if im correct a 67 is a 40 series?

if it is you can utilise the stub, hub, ball joints, ventilated disc and caliper, from a second generation Hiace i think they are a RH40 series circa late 70's they actually have the same suspension setup exept they have torsion bar springs you simply put the left hub on the right and vice versa, you use the original steering arms as they are longer i think. but you may have to re drill the holes on the steering arms as they are smaller than the bolts on the stub. the only other hurdle is the master cylinder. A brake specalist told me that the original master cylinder is ok to use aside from it not being boosted (increased pedal effort) and its not a twin system,

i fitted a master cylinder, Booster, and distribution valve from a cressida and it stops very rapidly much quicker than it can accelaerate which isn't hard.

i hope this info helps it isn't really that hard to do, probaply the hardest thing would be finding the discs from the hiace as most were drum and there arn't many left

i have been running this set up for about 5 years with no trouble

Good luck
