Toyota mechs reckon its one of the strongest gearboxes in the world  but definitely not the smoothest shifting.. the reverse in that position feels ok imo.

u really have to be trying to get it into reverse.

euro influenced?

these days most euros have a collar that needs to be raised or pushed down to allow u to shift over and engage reverse. our gearbox is just a strong spring loaded catch that u have muscle across, that's all.

It is impossible to put into reverse and not know about it :)

*** bless the reversing beeper...

I sometimes feel sad and unsure about my reversing abilities in other cars now :(

I have to make sure im in reverse like 4 times before ill start reversing :P

while on the topic of reverse...

do you guys have trouble with the Stivo crunching into reverse? even at a complete standstill?

I find if you whack it into first before going reverse it helps alot..

Dad said the 350z's are the same... and whacking it into 1st realigns all the gears..

Yeah I've found that on mine, putting into first before reverse makes it that little easier.

I don't have any problems with reverse, but I do have problems changing from 5th down to 4th, I just can't slide it into that 4th gear slot first time from 5th.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Yup, have trouble going to reverse even when standstill, sometimes crunch as well  will try putting into first first :)

also have little trouble going from 2nd to 3rd, just not perfectly smooth... need more practice maybe?
