Has anyone had issues re-installing intake camshaft 5SFE
G'day Herb, Thanks for the suggestion. I wish I could say I haven't thought of that yet. Unfortunately (for me), the bearing caps were the first thing I checked. They are marked I1 thru to I4 with a little arrow to the front of the engine from the factory, and I actually checked this before they were removed originally. It saves a bit of marking etc. and can't be mixed up easily. Also the cams can't be confused as the intake camshaft is the only one that accepts a pulley on these engines. All the bearing caps and surfaces of the cam, that runs in them, look to be in very good condition - no scores or marks. Each time the caps have been torqued (with assembly lube), and found to be tight, the removal sequence in the manual was observed and then each subsequent re-torque, the tightening sequence was followed. I am truly at a loss as it came out of the head reasonably easily. The manual mentions that the clearance tolerances are very fine. I can't put my hands on a set of feeler gauges at the moment, but wouldn't mind betting the thrust portion of the cam at the end bearing block is around 50 to a 100 thousandths of an inch. I have performed the removal/installation ritual around 7 times myself now and it gets monotonous real quick. The last time before I posted, I followed the lead of a guy on Youtube ( who positioned the knockpin at around 0 to 5 degrees ATDC of cam angle, instead of the service manual stated 80 to 115 degrees BTDC of cam angle), still no luck but the camshaft is in a better position for being neutral. I have tried it as the manual and now have tried winging it but it is disturbingly tight each time, and I'm experienced enough to not force it to turn. This is starting to do my head in, as I can't see what is the issue. Sorry for the rant. I really do appreciate any help. Thanks Darryl -

Aircon problem need help
I got a pink slip done the other day and they said it might be some memory lose when it sits for awhile. When it does start up its works like nothing wrong with it. It only stops working on start up when it sits for a while. -

Aircon problem need help
Hi Reece, no I have never had an issue with my Aurion AC but from what i have read it could be a slight leak in the AC system. It can build up enough pressure over time to work then may leak to the point it wont. I would get a good AC man to run a leak test on it to make sure that isn't the issue other than that maybe a faulty relay? it is worth checking into. Let us know how you get on mate. KAA -

Throwing a P0047 OBD Code
Heya all... The welcome gift from my new 2016 GUN126R today (after one day of owning it *sigh) was limp mode and a very poor drive home. This was presented to me with the Check Engine and Slip lamps showing, and the ever-useful warning to go and see my Toyota dealer *rollseyes I have a wireless OBDII dongle that seems to work well with Torque OBD and has thrown me a P0047 (Boost Control Solenoid "A" Circuit Low). I cleared it but it keeps coming back and dumping me into limp mode. Is anyone aware if anything else can present like this or common things that may do this. I'm guessing I'm off to get a new boost control solenoid to swap it out, but I can't find a good parts break down so if anyone knows the part number required that would be awesome. I keep finding 14956-EB70B but unsure as it's not pointing directly to my model which is a 2.8L Diesel, 2016 (1GD-FTV). Thoughts? -

Gidday y'all
Hi everyone, I'm new to the TOC and have come on board with my latest new addition, a 2016 Hilux SR5 (GUN126R) - AKA. Horus 😉 I've been an Avid Toyota/Lexus fan most of my life but pretty new to Oz and hoping to make some friends and get into some nitty gritty with you folk about the trials and tribs of my new beast over the coming years. I've been wanting a forby for a long time now so I'm a pretty proud daddy. Horus is already kitted with a few nice things and in fantastic nic in comparison to some other examples I have seen out there. So far, the most notable mods are an ARB Ascent Canopy, ARB Summit Bull Bar (both colour matched), an ARB Intensity V2 light bar, 20" Asanti AB810 Wheels, and it's running a secondary battery system too. A few things need dressing up and there are a couple of probs to iron out before I'm happy happy, and very keen to get some mods in there myself... mostly aligned with making it my best travel buddy. I'll likely post up the probs elsewhere here in the more appropriate channels but just wanted to pop my head up an say hi here first. -

Front parking sensors
I have a 2021 AWD cruiser & it has gone off in heavy rain since new; and then the rain stops but the car is still wet, the front sensors in the Toyota genuine Nudge bar activate & beep & bring up the pictures on the screen despite nothing being anywhere near the front of the car. Very annoying every time you slow down or stop. The Toyota dealer in Sydney ( where my vehicle was purchased ),denies that there is a problem and they claim they can't replicate the issue even though I have shown them a video clip. Asked the dealer to blast the front of the car with a hose and wet all the sensors ; they had a very negative approach to customer service. In 2022 we moved to the Hunter region of NSW , the country Toyota dealer was a lot more responsive in trying to solve the issue. So far two new sensor were ordered and replaced in the Nudge bar; this appeared to rectify the issue for over a year. Now in heavy rain the issue has returned with all the alarms and flashing lights again which is quite distracting and annoying. Interesting to note that we have two friends that have RAV4's same era, No nudge bar on either and no issues with sensors. However, when you order the genuine nudge bar to be fitted the problem occurs. Surely a company as large as Toyota has a team of experts that can correct a problem that they have created . Does anyone in Australia know of a proper fix for this issue ? -

Has anyone had issues re-installing intake camshaft 5SFE
My first thought was that you may have mixed up the cams, or the bearing shells. Herb -

Hello, we are new members.
We joined because we have several Toyotas. We like new as much as older models. We use a good mechanic and like to do simple maintenance ourselves. We have a 1992 hiace lhr113 5sp, 1994 Hiace commuter camper diesel Lh125 5sp, 2000 Hilux rzn149r (3rz-fe auto) & a 2012 hybrid 2.5l Camry. We hope to share stories with & gain some helpful tips from the community. Thanks & happy driving -

Has anyone had issues re-installing intake camshaft 5SFE
I bought my son a 98 camry CSX wagon with a 2.2L 5SFE, for his first car. He pulled engine and gearbox out as it has a badly slipping clutch. Rear main seal very leaky and wrecked clutch plate. While it was out of car, I said we should check head gasket etc and con rod nuts as apparently they come loose occasionally. All work has been done as per service manual, including removal procedure of camshafts and definitely torque settings. On installation of intake camshaft, it won't turn to re-align exhaust camshaft ( even at 3NM of torque on bearing caps). It was dis-assembled and re-done many times but still no good. I've watched at least 3 other guys do this on Youtube and without even following correct procedure, they have been successful. I have also tried doing it,(supervised other attempts) but also not successful. There is no apparent damage to head, bearing caps or camshaft but is still that tight the camshaft sprocket can be tightened to around correct torque and shaft will not turn. I have rebuilt many other engines in the past and have never had this sort of issue. Does anyone have any ideas of where to next. I would try another camshaft but the wreckers I have spoken to are not helpful - apparently its getting too old. Thanks in advance.
