G'day Guys,

So My first post is one seeking help. Basics are, Just got a "new" 2009 Sportivo. It has remote entry but I need to add an additional key fob to the car. I have a key fob "acquired" from the car pool from a written off car.

The car itself came with only the key as the previous staff member the vehicle was assigned to lost the fob somehow.

I've had a reasonable hunt around and cannot seem to find any reliable info on how to add a key fob. I predominantly play with mid 90's falcons and have sound knowledge within that realm of car, the camry is all new to me.

Is adding a keyfob an easy procedure? does it have to go to a dealer to be added? can I do it with scantool or similar?

Can someone direct me to a simple guide? Hoping it is not a back to the dealer type of thing. Good thing is its all legit if it needs to go back, but if i can save a few bucks I can focus on other projects.

Cheers guys,

Dave

Hi mate. Now I'm not saying this procedure will work for you, but it has been mentioned on our Aurion forum and there is a possibility it would work for you. There is no harm in trying it though and it would only take you a minute or two, so why not see if you're lucky:

Found on Whirpool

Key (blank) is about $80, remote should be somewhere around $130 or so, both from Toyota dealership parts. Get the key cut with a local keycutter (Mr Minit or whatever).

Procedure to program new master key;

Hop in the car, close door. Insert existing master key into ignition barrel (don't turn) and remove again, repeat this 4 times (ie: in>out>in>out>in>out>in>out>in). Leave the key in the barrel and open/close the driver's door 6 times. Remove the key, insert the new key to be programmed and leave it there for at least 60 seconds. And that's it.

Procedure to program a new remote;

Hop in car, leave driver's door open. Insert/remove ignition key twice. Close/open driver's door twice. Insert/remove ignition key once. Close/open driver's door twice. Insert ignition key (don't turn, yet) and close door. Turn ignition key from lock to on and back to lock, wait a second before turning back to lock. This is for "add" mode. Remove key. The central locking will cycle once indicating "add" mode is initiated. Press both the unlock and lock buttons on the new remote together at the same time and hold down for 1 to 2 seconds. Then press either unlock or lock on the remote. The door locks should cycle once to indicate it's learned the new remote. Once you're done, open a door to complete.

If anyone has a key that the buttons have worn out you can get replacement button skins from here: http://www.polmex.com.au/index.html

Thanks for that mate,

Thats been the only resource I have been able to locate on this as well. I'll give it a hit and report back once I have access to the car on the weekend.

Just out of interest do the '07 on camrys run scantool via and standard plugs? CAN plugs or similar?

Hope that works for you. If I find any other tried and tested methods for the Australian models, I'll make sure to post that here before the weekend.

The Camry uses the standard OBDII interface for it's diagnostics and for the Toyota Intelligent Tester... if that's the answer you are looking for. CANBUS communication is utilised throughout various components of the car.
