My HiAce is a dream to drive but just before Christmas the check engine light came on immediately after refuelling and has been on and off ever since. Our local Toyota mechanics used their computer thingy to check out the problem and came up with the solution of using petrol fuel additive to the fuel tank before refilling to help clean up the injectors etc. This works occasionally but is obviously not the answer. I did read on the net other solutions to the problem but need to know a quick and efficient way to deal with the problem. So far I have been charged twice for 2 mechanics at the same place to look at the same problem and come up with the same solution. Can anyone help who has experienced the same problem. I would go to the Just Answer mechanics but don't have a credit card so that's out. Electronic Fund Transfer would be a dream but they just don't use it. I am experiencing some decrease in power when I reach 100 kph which has not happened before. And this does not happen all the time. Your help would be very much appreciated.

I've never experienced that particular problem, but a few years ago one of the injectors on my old '87 Camry wasn't squirting as much as it should be... If that makes sense, you may need to change an injector, it shouldn't cost too much, also, I'm just taking an educated guess here and cannot guarantee you that it is the problem...

This will sound ridiculous, but...

Best way to check if your injectors are working 100% is grab a long flathead screwdriver, one with preferably a hard plastic handle, switch on you engine and hold the end of the screwdriver against the top metal part of the injector just before it reaches the head, now put your ear against the hard handle and listen to all injectors closely and see if one sounds muffled/different or isn't sounding the same each click over, you will surprisingly hear them quite clearly, sort of how a doctor can hear your heart beat through a stethoscope, also get someone else to rev your car a little while your doing this, holding the revs a bit higher to see if all the injectors are keeping up properly...

Good luck with it though
