I am yet to receive my Sportivo. It is due at the end of August. Can anyone reccomend servicing centres in Melbourne. Is it correct you need to get them serviced every 10k. How much does it normally cost??

I work for toyota in Sydney and recommend getting the services done every 10k plus intermediate services every +5 k...

So:

1000kms - Free service

5000kms - Intermediate Service

10000kms - 10,000km Service

15000kms - Intermediate Service

20000kms - 20,000km Service

And so on...

Intermediate service should be around the $150 - $200 mark and the oil change services will be around the same, but the majors (every 40k) will be around $400 or so...

Pricing is determined by the dealership though...

My 'fiddy cent' worth,

After 2 years of sportivo ownership, if you live in Melbourne, DO NOT go to "Australia's Largest Toyota Dealer", they don't even keep front pads for the sportivo in stock (I even went in 10 days b4 the service to book it AND informed them that the front pads needed changing!)

I get mine serviced by Rick Wollany in werribee

I must say, I will not normally do a speciific plug for anybody in the servicing game, as it CAN VARY from customer to customer, but I tried at my local "big" dealer FIVE TIMES, and I really think this warrants a mention, as it is all facts.

1. Twice i have waited over 45 minuutes (after announcing my arrival to the service desk to collect my car), for them to get my invoice and "explain" what they did to my car for the service, oh and both times my car was sitting there ready to go.

2. They don't stock brake pads.

3. Their basic service labour charge is OVER 35% more than Rick Wollany.

4. When I give them 5 litres of Mobil 1, and the car takes 4.5L with a new filter, they keep the rest of the oil........ Which I would normally use as a top-up between services.

Ricks give it back

5. If you give Ricks 3 to 4 weeks notice, they will collect ur car free (no joke here) at home or work, leave a crapped out echo (if you need to use it then you pay them to use it, or if it sits there it free) and pick it up am and have it back to you by 5 ,or at worst, 6pm.

6. Ricks don't put a FAT MARGIN on a front-end alignment that gets out-sourced to the local tyre dude. AND whoever does it for Ricks does a damn fine job- my car has never tracked straighter (or felt better through the steering wheel) since it was new.

7. I have only had 1 service so far (50,000), and my second service at Rick's is booked in 4 weeks, but the car felt great after i got it back from the 50k srevice.

All I can say is give them a call and get a service price for yourself. It varies from service to service, as '05 could be different $$ from '03.

I BELIEVE you should change the oil and filter at 1000km (you have to ask for this specifically).

If you want to see for your self, buy a couple of neo magnets (10 or 20c size) from a local magnet dealer and stick them on the sides of the filter on opposite sides the day you get your car and do the 1000k filter and oil your self, cut the filter open where the magnets are and check the s h i t that's stuck there....... and if your keen try it for the next 9000ks too, or even ask them just to drain the fiilter and give it back to you.

Rolla Boy,

What is involved in a 'Toyota' intermediate service?

I usually do my own intermediate service which basically consists of dropping the oil and filter.

The dealer stated they have no problem with me doing this as long as a genunine Toyota filter is used.

There is no way in hell i will be taking my sportivo to toyota for servicing...

Im quite prepared to pay premiums for servicing... but id prefer my local mechanic.. at least i know the work i pay for is actually getting done..

p.s. Dont take you toyota to Cannon Toyota in Heidelberg... a bunch of trained monkeys would do a better job..

IMO getting it serviced every 5000km is a huge waste of money.

Unless you take the car to the tracks regularly, there shouldn't be a need to service it that often for a modern car like Sportivo. You could just change the oil yourself every 5000km if you really wanted to but personally there's no way I would take it in every 5000km and pay 150-200 bucks.

Every 5000km just change the oil & filter thats what i would do, helps keeps the car fresh somewhat. And the normal schedule servicing to a proper service centre.

Try giving your local Lexus dealer for a quote ... you might be pleasantly surprised!

I get the Buddhamobile serviced every 5,000 at Lexus of Brisbane, I was charged $150 for the 10k and just on $100 for the 15k, both prices cheaper than the Toyota franchises within their own dealer group! Those prices include a wash and vacuum, plus some chockies for the ride home. :)

There are few QLD members who go there, and don't forget, its a Lexus dealer, so the customer service is right up there, I'm sure actual Lexus owners get better again, but I can't fault 'em.

I get the oil changed every 5k mainly because we intend keeping this car long-term, i.e. don't intend to get rid of it unless it all goes horribly wrong or dies of old age.
