Hey guys, just sold my Celica. After doing some research and finding out the 2004 Corolla had the same engine and gearbox I bought one.

Can anyone tell me what 18 inch wheels are available, it's proving very difficult to find - they're all mostly 5 pin.

Also, has anyone had an 'easy' experience with installing a K&N CAI?

Don't bother with the K&N CAI, go with the Injen or CES CAI, refer to the stickys in this section for details.

As for wheels that will fit see here; link. Factor in about $60 per rim in shipping.

I've read just about everything here, the ones you mention are out of my price because I want to do some other things as well eg. wheels.

Looking to buy the 698751TP K&N for about $200 delivered. Unless there's a compelling argument not to go with that because it's too hard to install yourself...

The 18x7.5" version of my wheels would be sweet, and only 9kg each...

You're looking at $430 per rim though...

That part number brings up a SRI, I would avoid these unless you plan to drive through water.

What is the diameter? That is the most important bit. 2.75" is the perfect size for the 2zz. The AEM is 2.5", while Injen and CES are 2.75".

The K&N SRI is a poor design, MAF's mounted on a bend and the filter's too close. A Sportivo woth one installed at a recent dyno day in Brisbane made about 60% of the power a stock car makes.

I drive in the rain :whistling:

Surely there was more to it than that. Why does K&N quote a HP gain on their website?

SRI's just suck in hot engine bay air. I say just do it right the first time and get the Injen.

MAF placement and tube diameter is the most critical part to ANY intake for a ZZ corolla. Get it wrong and your MAF will read incorrectly and cause all sorts of running problems with the ECU.

I can't imagine the air would be any hotter than the standard box which just sucks in random air.

Thanks for the link. Ordering from OS isn't the ideal option but I will if I need to.

Any idea if 18" 4x100 wheels from a Lancer would fit?

Ultimately, it comes down to what you want.

SRI = More torque & power through the midrange, smoother transition in to lift.

CAI = More torque & power at top end, better peak power. Not so good with the rain especially when you don't see a massive puddle coming near.

I guess it depends on what kind of power you want. As you can see, its pretty much between drivability and peak power. I don't think there's a better or worse option between the 2.

I'd be happy with an SRI that works as it's supposed to eg. gives some power gain; and that's easy to install eg. fits the Sportivo easily with no cutting or too much fiddling/jamming.

Preferably around the $200 mark (delivered) like the K&N (I had a K&N on my old SSS Pulsar and was very happy with it, but I welcome other suggestions that people have used that work).

Things is the snorkel is tucked away in the front right of the engine bay away from the exhaust/head.

The pod is smack bang in the middle of the engine bay. Try putting your hands in and around the engine bay when the engine is warm, you can feel different temps.

The engine is smack bang in the middle of the engine bay. The pod will end up all the way over to the right - where the stock airbox draws it's air from (cooler air obviously when you're doing what the car was designed for: driving).

There is always the option to put on a heat shroud and/or an actual 'cold air intake' (not just a pod in a different location).

Up to you what you choose. Your car, your money :)

^ agreed. At the most, you'll be looking at a 3 - 4 kW difference. Not much given the percentage variance.

Thanks for the replies guys, has anyone got any recommendations for an SRI (I'd prefer the term 'normal' ; ) or equivalent for the 2ZZ-GE that they've actually had installed or done themselves? Do you know of anyone around here that has it?

I love this Newbie , everything the members suggested this member had a come back for ..

Numerous people have suggested SRI isnt that beneficial but you are still adamant on finding someone who agrees with you and your opinion.

I have a CES intake like many on this forum and never looked back .

If its the cost that bothers you then try getting a 2nd hand TRD one with a new filter , will still be better than the SRI.. Everyone drives through rain , that doesnt mean your CAI will get ruined ...

Not keen on the CAI's that go right down the front of the car. We have little flash floods up here in Brisbane all the time. No biggie, I'm not trying to have an argument on which one's better. I know other people have the shorter CAI/SRI's. They're the people I'd like to hear from with their experience with ease of fitment eg. the K&N. If not the K&N, then one that people have had good experiences with. If K&N guarantees a power increase, I'm not too worried with having to return it if it doesn't.

Any thoughts on the Apexi Power Intake 508-T029? (Besides that it's not a long CAI ; )
