08 hilux sr

my grandfather is a diesel injection specialist, now semi retired and working just to keep himself 'busy' has asked me to get some info on the fuel pump and injectors in my 08 hilux sr kun26r which has done 142k ks.

the problem im having is it is blowing massive amounts of thick black smoke when under load and high revs.

ive spoken to a couple of toyota dealers and they wont give me any information, instead suggesting i bring it in to have all the injectors replaced by them (read: cha ching!)

id rather not take it to a toyota dealer when my grandfather can remove the fuel pump and service the injectors.

does anyone have any available data on the fuel injectors?

<edit> forgot to mention, it knocks terribly upon startup when the engine is cold. damn near wake the whole neighbourhood up in the morning. from what i can gather, toyota recommend replacement injectors and a computer flash. pretty poor considering there is clearly a design issue at fault.

Hi ROBBD TOYOTA HILUX TURBO DIESEL 2006: FACTORY FAULTY INJECTORS... ($ OH WHAT A FEELING)

5 APR 2011 FUEL SYSTEM *COMPLAINT*

RE TURBO DIESEL ELECTRONIC INJECTORS

"Re turbo diesel electronic injectors. Hi guys yes there should have been a recall for the faulty injectors. I just had mine replaced by a t/d here in Brisbane costing me $3201.25. I had no choice but to replace them as they got that bad I could no longer park facing downhill for more than 10 minutes. It would spew out white greyish smoke (most embarrassing) but be warned if left all day downhill the engine would virtually lock up (hydraulic) when I went to start it. I then left it overnight with a t/d for them check it out to try and find the problem and the diagnosis all 4 injectors were ****. Leaking diesel into cylinders. So all you t/d luxy owners experiencing the engine rattle, rough idle, poor fuel economy you can bet this is the problem.

Since having the injectors replaced it is a completely different vehicle to drive. Fuel economy 670 km using 70 litres highwy running compared to 550 km. I am now in the process of sending a letter to their customer relations centre to see what response I get."

  • 3 months later...

If you go onto newhilux.net there is a whole heap of info on this, there are quite a few people having injector trouble and not being able to get toyota to admit their obvious design flaw. That knock in the morning is not uncommon for these common rail turbo diesel 1KD's...its def the injectors, but as i said...toyota wont have a bar of it.
