Hey guys, Im in the process of buying a used Rav4 which has had quite a bit of damage done to the body. While the bumps dont appear to be major, there are a lot of them around the car and obviously need some panel beating and a fresh paint job to get it looking straight again.

My question relates to Paint colour. The Rav is currently this bluey purpley colour and Im pretty keen on making it BLACK. Are there any issues that may come up as far as the RTA is concerned? Do I need to let them know about the change in colour or is there something Im not aware of as far as this goes?

Im in NSW if that means anything.

I'm sure you will need to let the NSW RTA know of the colour change. The colour of the car is recorded on the RTA system, even though it may not show on your registration papers. It would be a matter of taking the newly resprayed car with registration papers to your nearest RTA office for them to do a quick check of the vehicle details, Vin#, Plate Number against your registration papers, before changing the details on the system.

Once RTA has changed the details, Insurance company will also need to be advised.

Always contact NSW RTA on 132 215 (8.30 am to 5.00 pm M-F, Sat 8.30 am to Noon)
