Bumper Painting

Hi everyone,

getting back into it all now finally.

Now I have finally gotten off my thumbs and obtained a rear bumper :whistling:

The issue I have is that it is blue and the rest of the car is white. Now I have no issues doing it myself but a few pointer in the right direction would be nice so that I don't make a complete mess of it. Have been doing a bit of research and can't really find a whole lot

its all about preparation, sanding,

are there any repairs needed to be done ?

All I can say is the amount of prep you put in (getting everything smoothly sanded and filled) is what the quality of the coat will be.

I haven't done a bumper but today did a RH mirror cover as I had damage

Heres how I went about it:

Washed

Sanded it fully back

Filled the deep scratched in with body filler

Sanded it back

Primer

Sand

Primer

Color coded top coat.

Now I've never done any paint work but its really simple. Just make sure you take your time.

Body filler is fantastic, but apply it in light coats so you can sand it back easily.

Good video (these guys have awesome, awesome DIY tutorials) check it out:

in this video he does a full bumper respray on a white subie

Goodluck, post up photos too :D

sometimes you dont need to fully sand it back, only when repairing damage,

other than that i take the clear coat off, colour match with the body, primer, 3 coats of paint, clear coat

no there isn't really any damage just some minor scratches which is to be expected with a second hand item.

as for compressor or can not sure right now I have access to a compressor but no sprayer was swinging towards can

yeahh, follow the hints before mine,

uhmm, your final sanding would be 800grit on wet though,

if you do happen to sand those scratches, make sure they are all rubbed in the same grit, the deeper the damage, the lower the grit,

then gradually going up to make those scratches finer,
