MVC36R 2005 Camry Transponder key and Remote Programming

Hi guys,

recently I purchased a new key and remote for my 05 camry altise from toyota. I researched the programming steps before i purchased them but it seems that the american cars have a different programming procedure. I haven't been able to find any Australian programming instructions. Does anybody have access to the Australia workshop manual for an 05 camry or know of the procedure to program the transponder key and remote.

for the remote, turn the key, into the igniton from off to on three times, (so its a cycle) till "pro" word comes on, above the radio, then press the remote button

thanks, just discovered how to program the remote just after i read this. I really need to get the transponder to work now though. Toyota are pretty protective over their workshop manuals

im not sure about they key either, but as far as i know, you need that numbered code that came with the car to program the key that you have

Rang up a number of toyota dealers and none really wanted to help me. Eventually someone was nice enough to help me out. The process ton transponder program the key is:

1. Inser the master key and cycle between on and off 5 times, leaving the key on in the 5th cycle.

2. Open and close the driver door 6 times, closing it at the end.

3. Switch the master key off and remove it, immediately inserting the new key.

4. Wait for 60 secs, and then open and close the door once more (The flashing security light should be off)

5. Remove key

6. Success

make sure all doors, bonnet & boot lid are closed and the interior light is off thru all this.

I bought a new remote from the US over eBay. One of the ones with the unlock and lock buttons seperate (a pet hate of mine to use the same button). I can get the car to say "Pro" but can't get it to do anything more. Any ideas?

I am also in a situation that I need a new remote as the old remote's rubber button is wearing off. I am wondering whether to buy from Toyota or ebay. What is the cost for Toyota one? Does anyone have ebay one working?

It will be the wrong frequency so you wont be able to get it to work. Sorry, but your stuck with having to use the single button remote, or replace the receiver in the car for an aftermarket unit.

I need help on this too. Just bought a used 2004 Camry altise 2.4L. Need to get a duplicate transponder key.

Toyota quoted 8978526020 transponder key $42, key cut $50, recoding $60.

I am thinking where, maybe online, can i buy the transponder key and do my own cut and recoding. Still trying to find if those key (same part no.) sold on ebay and comes from USA seller, can be used for Australian camry.

No, dont buy ebay US ones, i know its expensive, but you just have to get it, I actually got my key for $30, and got it cut for $40, just do the recording yourself, save yourself hassles and dont buy ebay

went to another Toyota and bought the key for only $34...good deal. They asked to get it cut outside and bring back for recoding during weekdays.

Now i just need to find a locksmith to cut and i can try recoding myself!! yoohoo

The $10 option would be them just copying your worn key on to your new blank. I recommend that you get your key cut to code, any good locksmith will be able to decode your existing key and cut the new blank to the code, it should cost you less than $40.

Coding in the key is pretty easy, if the locksmith is nice they might do it for you for a small fee. You can not code in keys with a Valet key.

If you want to know how to code in your key I can help you with that,

You can also get after market keys without the Toyota logo's but the Toyota keys are cheap enough and are better quality.

Does your original key work all the doors properly or is it a bit clicky?

really though, spend the extra $$ and get it cut to code, the key will last longer, your locks will last longer and wont wear out as quick. It will save you money later.

What model and engine is it?

If you aren't sure I can look it up by the VIN, but if you do it that way PM it don't post it up here.

It should be this..

Sit in drivers seat, all doors closed and key out of ignition. Wait 50 seconds before doing anything.

Insert already coded master key into ignition

depress and release accelerator peddle 5 times

depress and release break peddle 6 times

Remove master key

Insert key to be programmed

depress and release accelerator peddle ( security light should start flashing)

After 60 seconds the security light will go out

If you want to code another key insert in ignition and wait 60 seconds again

When finished remove key and press break peddle once.

job done.

So as you don't need to turn the key in the ignition for this one you can code it without having to have the key cut yet.

Security light I think is under the stereo.

thanks alot!! i didnt know that an uncut key can even be inserted into the key cylinder. i'll have a try and update you guys again

No issues with putting an uncut and/ or uncoded key in the ignition. Just don't try start the car with an uncoded key, it can do damage to the car and on some makes will actually lock you out, which means even with the correct key it wont start for a period of time.
