Hi all,

I have a problem with the starter motor not disengaging from the flywheel i've change starters and even ripped out the ring gear to check it, but all is ok, I've done what the manual says to check code error but the comes back clean. Its a 1992 TCR10 2TZ-FE 2.4EFI auto.

Its drive me bonkers not to mention broke....

Hey guys

The starter should look like this one in the link below.

The pinion should not protrude more than 18mm from the front mounting face of the starter otherwise it will be staying in mesh constantly.

If this is the case there may be an issue with the starter.

Also check the distance from the front of the bell housing to the ring gear. There should be about 20-21mm clearance.

If there is any difference in these measurements you may have either the wrong flywheel or maybe the incorrect starter.

I hope this helps.

Regards

Mark

Checked that they both seem fine.

According to the manual it says it may be any of the following: starter or starter circuit, ignition, main relay, ecm. My query is; is this correct, where is the main relay, and what part of ignition system would cause it.

I am unsure just where the relay is but the switch on some late model cars have been known to fall apart internally. Particularly the late model Navara.

The problem will rarely be noticed in the action of the key because the switch mechanism is remotely mounted and all may seem normal to the driver.

You should get a reputable Auto Electrician to have a look at it. Where are you? Maybe I can recommend someone.
