Service interval for Automatic Transaxle Fluid

Hi folks,

I have recently acquired a 2002 Corolla. The "Warranty and Service" manual specifies that the Automatic Transaxle fluid is to be replaced at 80,000kms IF the vehicle is operating under "extreme conditions". I have gone through the manual and there is no mention of replacement within the first 200,000km for a vehicle driven under "normal conditions". This is odd - I own other corollas and they all have a replacement interval (80,000 kms in fact)

What is the interval to replace the Automatic Transaxle fluid if the car (Corolla 2002) is driven under normal conditions?

This won't answer your question, but I'm from old school, where the auto transmission is serviced every 2 years or 20/30,000k's.

Thanks for the reply.

I wonder if there is someone out there who works for Toyota who can tell us. To me it looks like an error in the handbook - have toyota put out an advisory and/or correction?

also it may be something the moderator may want to bring to the attention of other Corolla owners with this handbook- (2002 at least) - if you (or your local service man) follow the handbook, the Transaxle oil never gets replaced - this can't be right.
