Hi Guys, thought I would ask the forum for an oppinion on my 2001 Hilux 2.7Ltr petrol 3RZ engine with LPG. I have done a compression test and readings are 170,170, 60 and 120. #3 is way down. It has been running rough for some time but is not losing coolant and no bubbles in radiator. If #4 is low as well, could that indicate a blown gasket between 3 and 4 or is it more likely a burnt valve in #3 and #4.

I have heard that if it is a head removal job to do vlaves then it is not worth it and to replace the engine. Seems a bit extreme!

I am old school and doing up a head was always possible in the past but I am out of touch with modern engines. I have had a quick look around for an import or wrecker engine and they are about $2000, way more than I can afford at the moment.

Any oppinions on which is the way to go appreciated... do up the head, if possible , or replace the engine with a second hand one.

Thanks

Paul
