I have a long wheel base auto tranmission Toyota Hiace 1985 Camper Van.

Recently had the steering column replaced and the auto transmission column gear shift indicator is now lost, the orange needle type indicator that shows you if you are in drive, reverse etc;.

I should have spoken to the mechanic at the time and now am trying to replace the gear shift indicator but they are impossible to find.

Maybe a piece of metal could be hooked on to the cable and painted red to replicate the indicator.

I wouldn`t be able to do this myself I am not mechanical at all.

Any suggestions, I am based in Brisbane.

Just been told by a friend it may be a bulb that is missing and Toyota may not have used the needle indicator type but a bulb light option?? I am confused, does anyone know?

Although I am not convinced because when parked and ignition off you could still see it was in park. Also it looked like a litte pointed metal arrow.

I am a non mechanical female. Pleased to report another mechanic found the fault a crimped wire and a bulb missing, pleased and relieved to report all fixed.
