Hard To Start When Engine WARM

Drove my new (old) 1987 Corolla the 700km home from Sydney today. While it was running didn't miss a beat, stoked.

Stopped in for fuel and shut the engine off, when I went to start it again nothing, like nothing at all.

Turn the key one click, stereo comes on, next click, fan and gauges, next one to start the car, stereo, fan etc drop out and the starter does not engage (can't even here the bendix moving at all)

Interestingly also the cabin light dims, almost as if the starter motor is drawing a huge load and sucking all the juice from other parts of the car.

Anyway, call NRMA, they arrive half an hour later.

Test my battery, test comes back good, and was showing over 13+V

He went to the car, and started it straight away without any issue, kicked over first go

Oh how silly did I look and continued on my way.

When I got home tried to replicate it again, but it just kicked over basically straight away without issue.

Any suggestions on where to start looking? I really don't want to get caught out with this,

Basically have ruled out the alternator due to it only doing this when the car has been running for some time, car started perfectly at 4am this morning first kick so the battery is definitely being charged

Bad ground? Bad starter? Heat expansion making the starter work harder? Bad connection? :g:

      sportivo steering wheel upgrade

      i recently saw a sportivo on marketplace with the celica wheel on it. which i thought looked mad so picked one up of a guy parting his celica. problem is, different air bag connection. the oem one on the 03 sportivo has the airbag look like this but the one i got off the celica is shaped different and has wires go out that hole into some kind of adapter on the side? does anyone have any experience with this? is it easiest (and is it safe) to find a matching clockspring off another celica - or is there a specific year that has the the airbag match? or is there another route for getting the nice perforated wheel onto the tivo. would love any guidance 🙏

      sportivo body parts on prodigy?

      For me personally, I wouldn't molest an original Prodigy to make it look like a Sportivo. As Adam mentioned, the suspension will also be different and it may be that you will spend too much money to replicate something like this. I would much prefer just go and find a nice low mile, clean example of a sportivo and sell the Prodigy.

      Have you lowered the car yet? In my opinion, sports kits on cars with stock 4wd height look silly.

      2002 Hilux seat upgrade

      Hi all, my wife is travelling through NT in her 2002 diesel Hilux. She rang today to complain about a sore ***** and numb leg, due to the original seat still in place. Can anyone tell me which later (latest) model seats might be a direct swap? Thanks.

      2016 N80 hilux electrical issue *help*

      Hi everyone, bought a 2016 workmate dualcab sight unseen online auction. When I picked it up it had flat battery. Jumped it drove it home. Battery accepted charge but when I got home and turned off engine, the dash (lights infotainment) etc all stayed on with key removed. This would no doubt explain the flat battery, but wondering for advice where I should start looking first. Seems on the ignition relay the first click that turns dash electrics on isn't turning off again when removing the key. Thank you for your ideas!

      Gearbox issue

      Just a thought, you haven't by chance installed a thick rubber mat or some other floor covering down that's preventing the clutch pedal from going all the way to the floor, and its preventing it from fully disengaging, Check your freeplay and adjust it accordingly from under the dash on the pedal itself, loosen the locknut, adjust the pedal height and freeplay
