Just a heads up for those like me experiencing or have experienced issues with the wireless remote for Camry models between 2006-2010

There is light at the end of the tunnel and hope that doesn't cost the earth (provided your issue is purely the remote) and not the reciever or the cars computer

So here's my little story i bought a 2nd hand 2009 Camry Altise (43K on the clock) for only $18000 bargain pictures included.

it worked flawlessly for around 6months then the wireless remote started playing up during the cold mornings and occasionally in the afternoon or night

getting frustrated i was obviously pressing it too hard and it stopped working altogether on monday when i got home from work and went to get back in the car to retrieve something later.

First off tried replacing the battery with a same model to no avail

THen took the plunge and ordered a replacement remote off ebay for $150, had only just had the car serviced by Toytoa Service Center in my area and specifically asked them to look at the wireless remote since it was being tempremental but ofcourse they found no issues if they even bothered to check it at all, that and a 60,000km service even though the car was at 50,000 still cost $362 wtf? didn't even include a tune up or a complimentry car cleaning, back in the old day a service included a tune-up and a cleaning and cost around $120 anyway thats off topic

so i bought a remote off ebay and couldn't for the life of me get reciever to recognise the remote, even with the easy to follow steps, finally after 12 attempts it worked, but the old one still wont so i guess that had **** itself.

Here's the steps for noobs or newcomers to this issue

1) Open the drivers door with all others locked

2) Insert and remove the key twice from the ignition (don't turn it just put in and pull out like an ATM card)

3) Close and open the drivers door twice

4) with door open again Insert and remove key once this time

5) Close and open the drivers door twice again

6) Close the drivers door

7) Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to on for 1-2seconds but don't start the car

8) Remove the key, the car will cycle the door locks to prove it worked

9) within 20seconds of step 9 Hold the Lock and Unlock buttons on the remote (together) for 1-2 seconds then release

10) within 3 seconds of releasing the buttons hold the lock button for 1-2 seconds then release

If it accepted the remote it will cycle the door locks once again

If it cycles the door locks twice it didn't accept the remote or you didn't time/sequence the steps correctly.

as i said it took 12 attempts for me to get mine to work but now it works perfectly so keep trying if it doesn't work first time

if it didnt work, just open the drivers door and start from step 1 again. It does say you can just repeat steps 9-10 again but that didn't work for me at any point so each time i just started from scratch.

So now the only advantage to taking it to a dealer is they have software and hardware to access the computer and customise the functions of the car to your liking ie. how the doors lock, the security etc. and if you lose your master key you might not be able to just replace it

If you buy a replacement remote (don't buy second hand obviously) if it's new there will likely be the above instructions suplied least the one's i've seen said they included instructions but i provided them for everyone
