Hi all,

I have such a huge fuel consumption since I've bought a used car from a dealership.

I have no other problems with the car, no complaints to acceleration or no-load... nothing. :(

What would you suggest? official toyota service?

Thank you in advance

Hey mate,

Doesn't seem right - use the trip meter and manually calculate it.

I get an average of 12.4l/100km city driving (I tend to floor it hehe) and 7.9l/100km highway driving.

I drive conservatively everywhere and getting 10.2-10.4L/100km. Being a 2010 model i think your reading should be low 9s.

A good way to reset the ecu is to disconnect and reconnect the negative terminal on your battery. See how you go.

Wow that's pretty bad!

When I bought my car second hand, I reset the ECU, just like aem said, just disconnected the battery for an hour or so, pumped the brakes a few times.

This may help...although not much changed.

I usually get 9.0 - 9.5L/100km (70% freeway, 30% suburban drive) using E10.

Thanks everyone for the hints!

Today I've made a manual calculation.

390km with 14.7L/100 km. :g:

I have a question about the reset of ECU.

Does it help if I don't have a trip computer preinstalled?

and please your thoughts about the official service from toyota in Australia?

thank you.

Better just reset the ecu first before going to a toyota dealer. Let the ecu relearn the way u drive.

Stick to the ECU reset for now.

If this doesnt fix it then take it to the dealer. It may also need a fuel injector service....

Funny enough, after i did a redlight race the other day with some car i forget, the reading now reads 9.5L/100km. That's down from 10.2ish. I think i cleaned out the cogwebs by gunning it lol.

Work a try, floor it!

Yeah it happens when you drive good for a whole week and then floor it the week after :D!

Off-topic: This generation Camry seems pretty quick to be fair, I did a redlight race with a Mit. Lancer and a VW Golf (Turbo), beat the lancer but not the turbo vw (duh!) but camry kept up pretty well, never dropped past his rear door ^_^ .

Back on topic again, I think it also depends what fuel you fill - it seems to make a difference on my car. I get further on 95/98 octane vs. E10. My 95/98 fuel consumption is around 10-12 and E10 is around 14-15 - even driving like a granny.

those figures are too high, you should get the same as me.

Hi all, am a newbie.. But I'm always interested in fuel consumption statistics.

I have a 2006 2.4Litre ... How many litres is the tank supposed to hold? (ie: what is the fill from empty?)

in regards to the range left meter..... is this accurate? or conservative? Ie: does it exclude the reserve fuel distance available? of ehrn it says range = 0 is it actually empty?

speaking of which... at empty... how much fuel is in reserve?

I'm asking all these questions as I haven't taken it for a long distance run yet and want to be sure before taking chances :)

Welcome to the club & as a fellow camry sportivo owner :D,

Tank is supposed to hold about 70 litres according to toyota. I'm pretty sure the range varies depending on the way you drive and probably includes the reserve as well.

Feel free to test it, just make sure you bring an extra 20 litres of petrol or so ;)

in my 2012, according to the digital fuel reading im getting 7.5 per 100km ,which i think is outstanding and ive had the aircon on alot lately but im not sure if the meter picks that up?.

Out of curiousity do you have after market wheels or non standard sized tyres?

Hi, newbie here :)

I have a 2003 sportive 2.4L very disappointed in the fuel consumption, only had my car for 2 yrs 2nd owner, great condition only 66,000km (brought with36,000km on the clock)

I roughly get 15L / 100km around town

And 9-10L / 100km highway

I use 95/98 octane as it tends to use more on normal unleaded.

Would love suggestions in how I could better my fuel consumption. I have tried not using the air-con, driving slower etc nothing seems to change it.

Thanks

Tyres all good ? Pressures kept up ?

Im sitting on 9-10L per 100km mostly city driving, roughly 600-650km per tank

Are you driving with overdrive off ?

Also how are you calculating this ?

Tyres are good along with pressure. top priority with kids.

Weather overdrive is off or on it is the same, tested a few times separately.

I have a 60L tank and only get 400km per tank

60/400 x 100 = 15L per100km

Has been this since I brought it in 2010 with 36,000km on it.

Great car just fuel and breaks are the two problem I can't figure out.

Thanks

Can't complain with mine. It drinks 8.5-9l per 100km /700-750km on a tank/ on 91RON with occasionally AC on in city driving.

On highway it gets 7.5-8l per 100km or 800-850km on tank at 110km/h constant driving with AC on and yet I have even seen it dropping to 7-7.5 at 80-90km/h speed constant driving.

Tyres on 38-40psi all the time and I change gears early or before rpm goes over 3k.

And I guess I roll my car in neutral a lot once it picks up speed.

How much fuel are you actually putting in the tank though? Just because it's a 60L tank doesn't mean you are using 100% of it, if you're filling up as soon as the warning light comes on you're probably only putting ~50L in, which improves the economy a fair bit (still not great though).

My fuel light goes on at 3-5l remaining, which stresses me sometimes as it really doesn't leave me much fuel left to muck around with; lucky their are petrol stations everywhere.

I am not a lead foot but don't drive ridiculously slow either.

So my last receipt is 57.3L and 389 km 57.3 / 389km = 14.73L

I also have one for 54L and 372km 14.5L

So saying I average around 14.5L per 100km would probability be more correct. As normal ill up is between 55-57 L and get not more than 400km every 2 weeks.

If I could figure out how to change it would be great to get it closer to 10-11L per 100km.

Not that it would affect your consumption, but 2010 Camrys actually have a 70L tank, not 60L. Trip computers are often ridiculously pessimistic when it comes to "distance to empty/litres left" though

^This, our camrys are 70L, when the fuel light comes on, we have approx 10L of fuel left in the tank

Pfft, less than a day in the job and you're already out of control

Other things to consider are how full is the car? What is the traffic like? Lots of hills around? Do you regularly go on long trips and "blow out the cobwebs", or is it just 10 minute city trips where the engine never gets warm?

Fuel consumption ratings are a guide based off a standardised testing regime, and don't always reflect real-world scenarios for a lot of people

Posted

Don't fill the car it usually has just one adult, 2 kids and the days bags. It is usually just around town trips small little town so it only takes max 20 min to get from one end to the other with traffic, not many hills around here.. I do try to let it sit and idle for a few min if I have time. (Didn't think this made a big difference is it supposed to)

I Do a 25-40km round trip on the highway once a week and maybe a 600km round trip every 3-6 months. Car is great on highway getting around 650km on a 60L tank (prob not great to some but considerably better consumption than I get around town)

Understand every car is different but other family members own Toyota Camrys in same town (earlier model) and they get fantastic consumption and same amount of driving.. Am willing to try anything to get the consumption down as fuel isn't getting any cheaper.
