gday all.

so the story so far. bought my aunty's 2002 2.4 (2AZFE) much loved & hardly used camry 3 weeks ago.

only 104 000 km on the clock.... stoked - as new. --- day 3 power steering pump dies. curse curse! replaced with second hand genuine part from 05 model as Toyota wanted $1000. car was all good for a week then while driving loss of power, oil light comes on & engine dies. has anyone had this issue before? has been religiously serviced& maintained by toyota stealerships during its 11 year life

thanks in advance

battery is only 2 months old. terminals look solid. checked all relays & fuses. was thinking more sensorish. only indication is oil light comes on dash then total loss of power & engine cuts out. service was done before I bought it 1000 ks ago. all oils fresh but dont kjow what grade they put in. Would 20/50 cause pressure sensor probs? I am leaning towards more electrical but peeved ff every time I look at it. gonna try disconnecting battery sarvo & checking all plugs.....

cheers miles

update. .. battery, terminals, charge rate, fuses all good. thinking oil pressure switch.......? had a good look under today & the sump gasket (liquid one) is new. I hope that they weren't too heavy handed with the sealant and its floating around somewhere. anyway down to the parts department to get new filter as apparently these toyotas dont like ryco. im learning heaps already. so gonna drain oil, new filter, & pressure switch. fingers crossed

update. . dumped oil (it was over full) chucked penrite 5w40 fully synthetic in, new oil filter & replaced oil pressure sensor switch. Also cleaned with contact cleaner. car is now driving fine - for now......

I'll drive it for the next few weeks before handing it to the Mrs & I get my fourby back ;)

Oil light will always come on when the engine dies, it is a sign that the engine itself is slowing down and the oil pump is no longer providing sufficient pressure.

acv36 2.4 vvti. car drove to work flawlessly this morning. only indication I got yesterday was no engine response through accelerator, oil can light came on, followed by engine cut out, battery light, check engine light, car rolls to a stop. frustrating trying to diagnose intermittent fault. no warning lights on dash this morning after engine turned over & drove normally
