Hello, the 18r in my 1981 rn46 Hilux is old and tired so I want to put in a newish engine.

My choices at the moment are an 18r from a Celica or a 22r from a later model Hilux,

Has anyone attempted either of these? Will either fit better?

Looking for the cheapest, easiest option.

Any help appreciated :)

Either motor should work. The Gregory's service manual covers both motors and others for all yn/rn/vzn hiluxes from 79 - 91.

Just make sure the mouths are the same. The easiest option however would be to remain with the 18r as you wouldn't have to worry about wiring harnesses matching up then.
