Hi guys,

Is it necessary to change manual transmission oil? Some say it is fine for the life time of the car. I believe mine has not been changed for 10 years as it is a 10 year old car. What you think?

In a word...yes.

When I've had cars with a manual gearbox, I changed it yearly (around 40 thousand K's usage per year).

10 years? Yep, change it. Check the Owner's Manual to see what type you need.

As you may know, some of the auto transmissions fitted nowadays don't even have a refill plug, as the Manufacturer says the fluid will last the life of the car. Don't do it! Get it serviced!

Nothing lasts forever!

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I guess I will just do it although there is no problem with gear shifting.

For what it's worth...if you wait until the shifting gets difficult and then change the oil, you've left it too late!

Make it a yearly (or two yearly) maintenance job.
