Prius C hybrid system failure

Recommended Posts

Something terrible happened to my Prius C, just over 1 year old, this morning. While driving at a speed around 60km/h, suddenly there was a 'ding' and a message appear: hybrid system failure, stop immediately safely. The car then lost power within one minutes or so and could not be restarted. I managed to stop it at the roadside. This car as I said is just over one year old, fully serviced by Toyota.

This was a very dangerous situation, especially so if you are on the motorway.

The car got towed to the Toyota dealer by NRMA where I bought and service the car.

This was the first issue I have with this car. It was very scary.

Anyone have similar experience?

Just a follow up:

After two days, Toyota finally found out what happened to my Prius c and fixed the car. It was a faulty fuel gauge. The car got no fuel in it but the displays indicated two bar left.

Did not think of that until the diagnosis.

Fuel gauge faults can be very dangerous too as the car suddenly lose power. Anyone have the same problem? Heard of something similar?

Thanks for the feedback eggwah. This forum is not very active and I know that this is a relatively old thread. But was glad that you recorded what happened here.

My PriusV is not yet 3 weeks old and I recon the fuel gauge is behaving like my old VW (when old not new). The bars came down sloooowly for the first half of the scale (covering just under 400km), then it shoots down pretty quick after that despite the average mileage it indicates. I was getting around 8 then down to 6.7L/100km, and at the low end of the tank at 5.4L/100Km. What's going on?

Hi

My Wife has brand new PriusC and the petrol gauge went down to the last bar and no further action.

On Petrol consumption calulation I knew it must be almost emty.

Filled up and it took 34.8 Litre.

On the first service Toyota looked into it , reprogrammed something with Labtops and now when it is down to the last bar it

makes a noice ( once only) and the last bar is blinking constantly.

This is the way it should be and it is now perfect.

Hi guys, I'm not a Prius owner just yet but hopefully soon.

Is this a problem over the whole Prius range or is it just the C that's effected?

Hi

It is not a problem at al really

My 2005 Prius makes a single noise and the keeps blinking.

Our Prius C never done it again after Toyota fixed it.

I just rented a Yaris Hybrid in Italy ( Prius C here ) for an extended time and it never had a problem.

By the way , our Prius C in Australia has much better graphics and feedback to the driver than the European model.
