2009 Aurion Sportivo SX6 Audio Upgrade Questions

Hello all,

So I've recently traded in my 2010 Corolla for a 2009 Aurion Sportivo SX6 and absolutely love it so far. The only issue I have so far is the stock audio system. In my Corolla I had a straight forward setup, with a 4 channel amplifier powering my 4 door speakers, and a mono amp powering a 12' sub, with an after market head unit, which have been removed from the Corolla and are now waiting to be installed. However, because the Aurion has a few more fancy features such as reverse camera and steering wheel controls, it would seem a very expensive option to replace the head unit to one that is compatible with the reverse camera (which I would like to keep).

Firstly, does anybody know the sizes of the speakers in the Aurion? I'm assuming the front door speakers are standard 6 inch, and the rear shelf ones are 6x9 inch. Please correct me if I am wrong.

More importantly though, is will it be possible (and decent) if I simply run the stock head unit, with my 4 channel powering the front door speakers and the rear shelf ones, and my mono powering my sub? I know many stock units will work with this, but I want to make sure this will work 100% before I get someone to fiddle around with it.

the front and rears are 6x9, you can run everything off the stock head unit but it would'nt sound as good as a aftermarket one, i am currently looking into upgrading my sound system aswell :)

Cheers Aiden, so both the front and rear speakers are 6x9. Yeah I realised that an aftermarket headunit would obviously sound better, but finding a good branded one compatible with the reverse camera and finding a kit for the steering wheel controls seems to be in the $500+ range. Any recommendations?

Worst case scenario I can lose the reverse camera, but how much would a reliable steering wheel control kit cost?

I'm using a stock headunit with USB input. I just piggybacked a line out converter across all 4 channels, leaving the original wiring in. It sounds okay but you will lose bass above 40-60(max).

Note you have six speakers: Rear parcel shelf, front doors and in your dash just under the windscreen. I believe they are 2" speakers with a in-line capacitor to run high frequency. They run in parallel off the front speakers. Mine are stock.

For the front 6x9's you're gonna need some MDF to mount on. I used 1/4" MDF mounted to the door frame, followed by a 3/4" MDF oval to give me a total of 1" clearance from the window. I have 3 3/16" (3.2") top mount depth speakers in. No issues with clearance/door trim.

The rear speakers will hit the plastic cover so use something like 1/4inch MDF to make the baffle plates, and just watch out for the boot springs. No issues with parcel shelf cover/boot clearance.
