Hi I have just picked up a 09 aurion and I am concerned the cold idle is too high (about 1800). This is for about 30 seconds then it slowly comes down. Is this normal for this model ?

Thanks. Seems hard to believe as cold start is a huge contributor of engine wear. Surely 1000 rpm would be sufficient.

it idles higher when cold so it can get upto operating temperature quicker, totally normal

Ok. If 1800 rpm cold is normal I am happy with that. Cheers

I wish there was a way to make it idle lower when cold 1800 is way too high, even after 30 seconds they still idle at 1200-1300.

My other cars don't go over 900 when cold.

Toyotas signature i guess,

mine used to idle at 3k for a few seconds on really cold winters when i park the car outside overnight

Its nothing to be worried about really
