Hi Guys

I am wanting to raise the front of my 1996 4x2 Hilux.

It has shock absorbers and torsion bars.

What has to be done to raise it?

Cheers

You can't just raise the fromt. you have to raise it square and evenly all round. It's done by resetting the torsion bars and fitting raising blocks at the rear. WARNING: this can screw your tie rod ends badly-they may need replacing with custom parts-gen avail.

torsion bars have bolt adjustment at far end-22mm dia AFAIK, with a locknut. Prob very tight/dirty threads. just measure where you are and decide how high you want to go. Tighten the bolts until it gets where you want. Make sure the car remains square. NB this will need prior approval from licensing dept, and prob inspection. get approval b4 doing else car unroadworthy and may need to be reset to std. unroadworthy cancels CTP and other insurances, leaving you exposed to all the costs if an accident. Pedders etc are quite good at doing this, tho' not nec as cheap as DIY. There is a risk of bolt breakage if too tight-suspension shops factor it into their price so no surprises. Broken bolt means DIY becomes very difficult to complete, and car will have to be transported to shop for repair. $$$$$! Don't say you weren't warned!
