Hey guys,

I've been looking a little at used car prices (zoom zoom imports like the FD Rx-7) in new zealand and they're much much cheaper than over here.

I figure since kiwi land is so much closer than japan and the dollar is lower it might work out well to import a car over from there.

Is this possible/difficult?

any body out there done this b4?

works out about the same as bringing one in from Japan.

Cost me $2200 in taxes/shipping to land my last import.

Hey hey,

SO for example if if want to buy his car (its just an example fellas)

It comes landed, then i start doing all the same compliance and road worthy stuff as i would with a jap car right?

but the car still seems cheaper in AUD raw FOB then aussie prices. Unless there are gaping hidden costs i'm not aware of?

if you want a post-1989 car, you have to go through the RAWS method, which is a lot more costly than the SEVS method for the pre-1989 cars.

I'm not 100% sure if the GTiR's can still be imported under RAWS or if they are no longer eligable. Best to select a car you would like and then contact a RAWS workshop that can comply the car. RAWS compliance can cost anywhere from $3K to over 10K depending on the model of the car, the SEVs compliance for older cars can typically be complete for $1500. This is all on top of the purchase price of the car, import duty and shipping costs.

Do some research here: http://raws.dotars.gov.au/

And be aware of the risks of brining in a post 1989 car, you dont want this happening to you: http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=1866

It's on the NOT ALLOWED TO IMPORT list... *sob* must be coz they have a Aust delievered one...

then how's it work for the MR2? They have those bathurst models and import ones too... rollamods?

some MR2 turbo's were eligable under the old scheme, and a few were brought in under SEV's before they changed the rules on that aswell.
