Gday all,

recently picked up a 1999 dual cab with the 5L 3.0L diesel engine, have carried out a oil/filter/FO filter change, and i have greased the main drive line (all nipples on uni joints), and checked the air filter.

I may have a slight exhaust leak somewhere along the pipe, havnt had a real hard look yet.

Engine, gear box and front and rear diffs have all been overhauled in the last 30,000km.

Shes only done 180,000 km.

Are there any other grease ports i should know about, nothing on the suspension or in the hubs etc?

Also are there any other things i should check for?

Any help is great

Cheers

Brad

Cam belt due in abt 20,000km, replace water pump with it. see my post about before u buy an older Hilux. It contains much of what's to look out for. NB If your car has done significant Low ratio [off-road] work, It would pay to bring all that information foward to a lower milage, except for the bits about the hydraulic cylinders-which are due anyway.

cheers for that, as for the extent of low ratio, i have no idea, its in great nick inside and out , no rust anywhere, engine bay is clean as a whistle and all running well, only faults i can find is the heater core for the cabin heating has rotted through (as per your post) and i have had to block it off, and my interior light works for a bit and then blows the fuse, obviosly a wire which has its insulation broken down.

Any idea how hard it is to replace the heater in the cabin?

get serving CD from ebay for cheap instructions. I believe it's quite a tough job, pulling out he dash parts and getting into it. Slowly, slowly catchee monkey.

yep whole dash has to come out, full day job atleast, not going to worry about it.

Its had a full engine rebuild including all pumps etc, also a full gearbox rebuild (inc both diffs) only 38,000 km ago, so wont need timing etc that soon.

I have put a small amount of grease into the top ball joint, would you recommend pulling out the bolt and putting a grease nipple into the lower ball joint on front end and putting a few squirts in?

Also found a small exhaust leak on the flexible joint about half way down, will get this sorted, has to be cut out and rewelded.

yes I would, provided it doesn't get fouled and broken off. It's just annoying that they're not fitted OEM, but they have to pad the dealers' servicing bills somehow/not provide something to sell more parts. Corrupt thinking IMO, but I can't estimate the savings/extras profit this earns them.
