I have a 1994 4x2 22r hilux that is difficult to start when cold it appears the the Auto choke is not working just wanting to know the electrical side of the choke operation if possible

Electrics are just a heater usually. workshop manual will tell you the resistance of the element. they usually go oper circuit, making them jam closed. Adjustment is easy, loosen the cover srews and with the choke baffle exposed, rotate until it's at the desired position for the current actuator coil spring/motor temperature. Other systems on cars use water temp to operate the choke. These often leak or fail when old.. Electric chokes are reasonably reliable. Electric enrichening jets are a lot better, but only motorcycles seem to use them. Nothing beats a manual control IMO, but it requires understanding to use well. Modern drivers usually lack that knowledge, so it's often automated, which means it will fail eventually. EFI has longer spray times whilst the motor is cold. Diesels have rich starts when cold, sometimes. Not necessarily automaticly set either.
