Hi all you Luxers

Im a newbie to this forum. Got myself a great 2004 Dual Cab KZN165 which is coming up to the 150,000km timing belt change. My question is related to the water pump. Is it as a general rule a pretty reliable unit that will be likely to get me to the next belt change at 300,000kms or do folk change them out at the same time as the timing belt. I know there are always some water pumps that last forever and some that go early on but is there any collected wisdom regarding this issue. Would hate to have to pay for it to get pulled apart sometime soon if it could have been done with the belt swap. Vehicle has had a pretty easy life before I owned it if that has any bearing on the question.

Thanks for reading and please feel free to boast that your water pump has done half a million kays as it may save me from fitting a new one unnecessarily.

Cheers

Change it... most mechanics insist on it... its not worth the risk IMO... and while its all pulled part why not. :)

Change it and all seals on the timing side. It will counter any chance of having to fork out for labour later and save you money in the long run.

prevention is cheaper than cure-and cooked motors are awfully expensive. It's a small extra cost to do it now, but a bigger one to do on its own.

thanks for the replies. common sense i guess but it was helpful to have it pointed out. i intend to take the truck back up to the centre so you are dead right, cheaper to change it now than break down in the middle of the desert.

cheers
