Last Monaro on auction

Recommended Posts

Why would holden stop producing monaros....??

i see them eveywhere so they must be popular...

then again fuel prices are not as popular.

One reason is that sales, although they've been good, are very quickly tapering off.

More importantly, though, Holden will be spending the next few months ramping up production of the new VE Commodore, so they need all the space they can get on the production line while still keeping other higher volume customers (ute, wagon, Statesman) happy.

Not to mention a good tax write off...donation to charity and get a free car!!!

not tax deductible for the buyer because he got "goods" out of the transaction

also it is above the luxury car limit for depreciation so not really a good tax write off

Also, it's good to stop producing a model when it has a good reputation, it brings a desireable image to the company rather than stop producing it simply because no-one is buying anymore.

The real reason is economics. The stamping equipment Holden purchased 2nd hand from Canada to produce the Monaro specific panels were never intended to be used for high volume long term production, if a new model is to be introduced, this costly equipment would need replacement, and given almost 1 billion has gone into VE development, they're not looking at spending money on loss leader niche models at this point in time. A Monaro replacement will come along, but it won't be named Monaro and is not expected for at least a couple of years.
