Hi All,

I'm new to the 4x4 world and got a question for the more experienced in the world of offroading.

I noticed a clicking sound when I'm in 4wd with hubs locked on my 1990 ln106 hilux.

The clicking is not there if I'm in 2wd with locked hubs or in 4wd with free hubs.

I'm thinking it could be the front drive shaft being to short (truck is lifted by 2"-3" ans is on 33" wheels) as I did notice some play on it when the rig was lifted off its wheels.

Any thoughts?

Changing vehicle height ALWAYS makes life harder for prop shafts and ther joints, because they are permanently further out of alignment than normal. It's prob a CV or universal joint. Does it alter fwd/rev and/or L & R turning? It's a middle aged car, expect some expensive problems-particularly CV's and uni's, brakes, clutch etc.......

thanks for the reply manxman.

had everything else checked out when t was lifted and everything seems to be good. no change whether I'm going straight or turning in any direction

I'll try to take a pic to show how it looks when the truck is resting on all 4 wheels

All of the seals are blown out of the universal joint and slip joint, which is not good as it allows an ingress of dirt and grit. This will cause accelerated wear on the joints.
