New Member, I just Love Toyotas,I have a Corolla & a Hilux .
I mainly use either Penrite or Nulon coolant. For the last coolant change, I used Repco brand [ on special and manufactured by Penrite[?]]. I could not easily access the coolant drain plugs on the engine block so I elected to flush the coolant system a few times with distilled water and used the coolant concentrate rather than the coolant pre-mix. No experience with having a murky black coloured coolant issue. However would be considering also using a radiator flush product. I also remove the coolant overflow tank and give it a decent clean to remove any deposits/residue before adding the new coolant. My latest bit of research suggested to replace the coolant every 3 years rather than rely upon the additive package of the longer service life of the coolant. This is where it becomes handy to have litmus testing strips to check the Ph level. Something else that I have done in the past prior to this latest radiator flush, has been to annually clean the coolant overflow tank and then fill with new coolant. -

Oil viscosity
Most importance reference material is the owner's manual for your specific vehicle for the recommended oil viscosity and oil specifications. Learn/know the engine details and model code for the engine fitted to your specific vehicle. Something else to consider that the same engine model are upgraded/refined over the years. Particularly consider the vehicle operating conditions e.g. freezing mornings with low temperatures When you have those details then do your own research. Oil viscosity
I have a new 2024 Rav 4 cruiser hybrid. My question is: Do you stick to the recommended 0W-18 oil (although, our dealers all use 0W-20) or do you go with 5W-30, which is included as compatible in the owners manual. The reason I'm asking is that in the 300 series they also recommend the low viscosity oil (0W-20), but many owners are getting their service people to use 5W-30, as it will prolong the life of the engine in our hot climate, particularly, in their case because they tow. -

Help with AirCon
Hi all, need some help please … I have a 2004 Gxi Avalon I recently purchased. Aircon not blowing cold. Fan works, AC light comes on however no cold air. On line people talk about the Relay switch that is usually the problem. Most videos show the Magnetic control relay is the problem and it’s usually abbreviated on fuse box however for the life of me I can’t find it on this Avalon. Any ideas where this relay is found ? Apparently this is the one that kicks in the compressor. Happy to keep troubleshooting however thought I would start with this. All help is MUCH appreciated ! -

Hello, I just Love Toyotas, My dear Mother gave me her 2011 Corolla Ascent w/ only 45,000 kms and I just Love having a car with No Issues as in Fixing things up and things going Wrong as they Do with other Well Know cars(Its an Easy Guess what Brands we are talking about here) But to have and drive a car that Nothing Goes Wrong is a seeing Miracle and a Return to Sanity. Now I have purchased a 1996 Hilux 2.4 carby one owner, 205,000 kms new tyres in a Pretty Condition country car. Now I've checked the coolant overflow tank and it is'nt green or red but a murky black which has got me concerned as I checked the radiator contents after a big drive before buying and did'nt see any Bubbles.It has'nt overheated on a big run.The previous owner spent close to $1800.00 on serviceing etc about 6 months ago. Now I'll do a radiator flush proper But what type of Coolant and what Brand do you People recommend and anything else for that matter. Thank You for your time and advice. Mark W S. -

GVM UPGRADE FOR LC300 SERIES GR-SPORT
I have a GR-S with a JMACX 4200 GVM - the key component to answer your question is the electronic version of the alpha dampers. its a bit of a double edged sword - the drive mode wheel now only controls throttle response and transmission/streering gremlins, as the Toyota dampers are gone, however the replacement supersedes function quite nicely. You get a cute little panel that can operate the shocks in different ways. You can set your baseline firmness for each shock, and either lock this in ORRRR turn it to adaptive mode and feel the outside dampers firm up around corners, front ones firm whilst braking etc. It presumably uses a 2-axis accelerometer to tell which corner to do what. You can even get to display the data it’s utilising to make the realtime changes. so… this seems to work like the Toyota system - in my opinion, it feels less ponderous than the factory suspension, but the relatively inconsequential issue of the drive mode not controlling the shocks can trigger the OCD amongst us. I’ve only had OME suspension prior to JMACX - I must say I’m overwhelmed with how much engineering has gone into the system. Driving the vehicle around, it feels like it’s dominating the road, rather than timidly subbing. Coming from a 200 that felt like As mine is black with an ARB bar and BFG 35’s, it’s also somewhat intimidating - which has its advantages at the school drop off - and its disadvantages as I’m pretty sure most drivers just think I’m another obnoxious black monster truck driver with a loud snorkel and exhaust. im actually not that obnoxious. have I even answered your question?
