4wd not engaging 98 hilux sr5 push button

Hey everyone
I have a 1998 Hilux sr5 with push button 4wd,I recently got a bloke to replace the timing belt and water pump. After doing so the 4wd was stuck engaged. we played around with the vacuum hoses to get the ute home, but now we cant get it to engage at all.
When you push the button you can hear the reply click behind the dash. If you pull the sensor off the back of the transfer you can hear it click and again if you put it back on. we have pulled the wiring loom out and check for broken connections. The vacuum pump at the back of the transfer doesnt have any power or negative wires running into it...
The sensor at the front of the diff has a little bit of power but only just enough to turn the light on a test light.
Help please, ment to be going on a 4wd trip friday....

It's not uncommon for vacuum lines to melt or become crushed.

Try and get your hands on a vacuum gauge so that you can have an idea of how much it is pulling at different points. In most cases you will want somewhere in the range of 20-30 inHg.

How does your brake pedal feel, is the booster still working fine?
