My 2006 HiLux A/C works great when driving without the caravan but when pulling the caravan and the air  temperature is around 30 or higher the ac will not work, I turn the ac off for a while, then turn on again and it will work again until I start to climb even the smallest hill.  Have had gas topped up, ac checked and working ok.  Frustrating, need some advice.  Told to check the relay switch but no-one knows where it is.

No the temp gauge doesn't move, stays in same position as normal

If the A/C system is working fine normally, there could be an issue of the condenser heat soaking. Do you have any non-factory fitted to the front of the vehicle? Bullbar, lamps, intercooler, etc?

Have a ARB full size bullbar fitted plus 2 driving lights.  Could it be the relay switch? As has been suggested by mechanic.  The bullbar and lights have been on the vehicle for sometime, we previously pulled a camper trailer and no problems with the AC
