Hi all,

I have a 2000 SR5 - I purchased the car 3 weeks ago and I took it to the exhaust shop as I had a slight leak. when I got it back the 4wd light was on. the car was stuck in 4wd mode. I tried many ways to pop it out and it didn't work. I called around and figured out the transfer case solenoid actuator could be the problem. I purchased a second hand one and replaced it (very easy to do) my 4wd worked well.

I then decided to degrease the running gear and engine bay. after doing so using my gernie all came out clean. however I got back into my car and the 4wd light was back on..

also my 4wd computer was making a buzzing sound so I changed it and still same problem.

but now the 4wd jumps in and out and the car jerks between changing from 4wd to rear wheel drive.

has anyone got any ideas as it seems the mechanics I give it to have no idea - mind you they own hilux's lol.

I didn't attempt to change the actuator again as I don't think its the problem as the problem now is different to what it was in the first place. I feel its more of an electrical fault than anything else.

I have also looked at the vacuum lines and they are all still in tact.

can anyone assist?

Check that water and degreaser has not gotten into areas that you washed, it may have washed out greases and oil; and have rusted or corroded components.

areas like?

I have looked everywhere and also made sure it all dry and free of an corrosion.

If it was fine before you washed it, then it wasn't straight after, there is a good chance that water got inside something it shouldn't of. This is most likely electrical components.

I am not familiar with your exact engine bay and I am not certain where you focussed the water. This makes is very difficult to pinpoint exactly where the fault lies.

If the computer was making a buzzing sound I would be looking at your computer and make sure everything is fine, water could have been the problem and something might need fixing.  I have cleaned out my engine bay a few times and nothing has happened to it. I use high preasure and degreaser.
