Hi guys, i just bought my first car and its a hilux! :D I've been doing work on it and i want to put a custom stainless snorkel on it. My car is a 1997 extra cab 2.4 22r petrol. Would putting a custom snorkel on it be worth it and should i have it at 3" or 4" thick?

Thanks and any info would be great,

Cal :)

Any snorkel is well worth the effort.  Hiluxes get their air from inside the guard with no way of getting a cool, clean supply.

I accessed the ECU in my KZN165R with an OBD reader and found that the intake temperature at the air box gets to around 80deg c on a 40deg day.  No engine will make power at these temperatures.

I have since installed a TJM snorkel and now the intake temperature is never more than 10deg above ambient.  I get much better performance since installing the snorkel and my air cleaner stays cleaner.
