Hi there - I have googled and done a good bit of research but really haven't arrived at a comfortable solution regarding a lift kit installation in my Prado. I have a Prado VX, 2011, Diesel, Auto, 150 series. I took the standard 18 inch rims that came with continental tyres as i intended on putting larger tyres on it but found sourcing Mickey Thompson or similar for the 18 inch was very expensive, and not a lot of selection. I have 17 Inch rims on with 265/65R17 and it drives pretty well i reckon.

I am now starting to do some Beach driving and camping, and found that driving the beach in the Lancelin (WA) areas and also up at Wagoe Beach was nerve racking. I have the standard recovery gear etc and have better than average 4x4 experience plus beach driving. With 2 young kids and an impatient wife i want to reduce the risk of getting bogged on the beach and listen to the nagging and screaming when i am knee deep in sand.

I found the clearance in not enough as when it bogs down, the side step rails cause more of a hindrance.  I understand momentum is key but often with beach driving you never know what you are going to encounter. 

I require a good suggestion for a lift. I am thinking 2 inches, also put back on the 18 inch rims and go with a bigger tyre opposed to the standard continental.

I just got a quote for KDS lift kit? fully installed for $1850 here in Perth. I am seeking quality, so will not skimp on price too much but as always want a reliable set up that still gives a good ride and more confidence in the sand. 

I would greatly appreciate recommendations for a new set up.

That's why I have asked this forum for a recommendation? I am unsure if I will be happy with it. I assume there would be people on this forom with a set up they are happy with condusive to beach conditions. I would be interested to know what they think and brand.

I can't recall a lot of lifted builds on here, you may also benefit from a more offroad/4x4 based forum as they cater more specifically to that market.

      Gearbox issue

      Vehicle Details: I own a 2011 (MY12) turbo diesel 4x4. Issue Description: When shifting into second gear, the transmission produces a grinding or crunching sound. Additionally, downshifting into first gear is only possible when the vehicle is completely stationary. Repairs Attempted: To address the issue, I have replaced the gearbox, installed two new clutches over time, and replaced both the master and slave cylinders. Despite these repairs, the issue persists. I'm seeking advice on potential causes or further steps that could resolve the problem.

      Timing Belt light

      Hi all I just joined Prado club and I live in Cairn’s and although I love my Prado I have to sell it because since my wife’s hip surgery she cannot get in it. Does anyone know where I can find a proper Prado/Toyota buy and sell dealer up here ? Its 2013 model that goes like a rocket with only 150km Also since it’s hit 150km the timing belt light comes on..do I need to get that fixed before I sell it or tell new owner about it if I can get it removed?       2017 Toyota Hilux 4x2 workmate - transmission issue

      Mate go to a transmission specialist, that's all they work on, day in, day out. You wouldn't go to a dentist for a new pair of shoes The Aisin trans is really durable, have the specialist perform a service, unless the vehicle is throwing a check engine light, don't expect any fault codes to be logged, so I doubt hooking up a laptop will reveal anything, afterall that's NOT Midas specialty, just my 2 bobs worth

      2017 Toyota Hilux 4x2 workmate - transmission issue

      Hi I purchased a used 2017 4x2 workmate, auto, which I've owned for over 12 months now. I have noticed an issue with the transmission. First thing in the morning is when it is most noticeable but does happen during the day also. When the ute is about to change from 3rd gear into 4th it revs high as it goes into the next gear. It always seems to be from 3rd to 4th. I was at Midas getting my brake pads changed and i had a good chat to the guys down there about it. They suggested it could be that the transmission fluid needs a flush out. They did show me the colour of the transmission oil and it was apparantly ok but not great (yellow/dirty colour as apposed to red as advised). They said this may help (at about $400) but cant guarantee it and for about $150 they would hook it up to their computer (I'm not sure all details) and take it for a drive and see what the ute tells them. I guess I'm after some opinions on this and do you think its worth spending the money to do these initial processes, which I'm leaning towards. Looking for advice... Cheers Gilly

      1999 Vienta V6 won't start

      Thanks Tony Its not my car. It belonged to a family friend who has sadly passed away. I don't think he would have put E10 in it. He was a fairly handy bloke mechanically. I have also been thinking if the battery being flat for some time might be an issue. Maybe there is an immobiliser that needs to be reset? I replaced the battery and have plenty of cranking power. Its a well looked after car and I would like to use it as a daily. I'll check the fuses and then the fuel pump. Appreciate your assistance.

      1999 Vienta V6 won't start

      Hi David, It is possible your fuel pump has packed up. If the fuel in the tank is over 2 years old, especially if it's E10, then it may have compromised the pump and sender unit. (hence no fuel gauge). If you leave E10 fuel in a tank for several years in a car not optimised for it, then that can and will wreak havoc in the fuel system. I hope that isn't the case and it's just something simple. Check for a blown fuse first, of course, then move to the pump itself. You can either elect to remove the pump from where ever it resides as I'm not sure on that particular model, and just apply 12V to it and see if it pumps. Alternatively, you could disconnect the fuel feed line to your fuel rail, place the tube into a bottle and see if it pumps fuel that way. You mentioned if it has a kill switch. You'd know this if it's your car, so I am suspecting it's not yours ? These cars won't have a kill switch unless it's been fitted with an aftermarket immobilizer, which can kill one or two things, Electrical and fuel or just electrical or just fuel. Depends how it's been wired up I guess. You may also no spark. Pull one plug out and ground it to something metallic and have someone crank the engine to see if you have spark. if so, then it's more than likely a fuel related problem.
