Hi folks just a brief intro , Ive been a cruiser owner for years now having rebuilt two 60s with the 2h boat anchor and more recently a 61 which I have just pulled the motor out for a refresh 450k , anyway  I have a pressing question and its doing my head in , that is I have black oil in the bell housing (clutch slip) the rear main seal is dry as a bone and the oil does not smell like gear oil . There are quite 'bad' leaks from either side of the block and make quite a mess on the under carriage gearbox and pan , the pan is not leaking . Can a bad leak find its way through the drain hole ? Any advice would be most helpful and worthy of a shout...Cheers Wal

Is it leaking down from above? The bellhousing is not very well sealed, so it could be leaking all the way through, although unlikely.
