I' m replacing the timing belt as it' done 150000km on my hilux 3ltr. As I'm in there I was going to replace the water pump , as it has leaked from the seal at one point.

I need to remove the timming gear to get the back plate off to access the water pump . I know that there is a hex on he cam shaft to hold it place . The rocker cover has to be removed. Can I remove the rocker cover without touching the injector lines?  Or can I hold the gear without undoing  the rocker cover . Can i use old belt and hold it ?  All well undoing but I don' want it to move  when I'm torquing it back up. Is there a short cut somewhere?

Injector lines need to be undone at the top end and loosened at the bottom, if you need to remove the rocker cover.

You don't need to remove the rocker cover when doing a water pump or belt. Just the plastic cover on the front of the engine. There is a special tool to hold the cam gear but I've used the old belt to redo the bolt up ok. Make sure you turn the crank over twice and recheck timing marks  after you fit the belt. These are interference engines and will mash valves if out. Hit me a pm if you need any more help.
