1997 Hilux engine ID

Hi Folks

My first post on this forum.  I am trying to ID the engine in my sons Hilux.

It is a 1997 dual cab 4x2 . I suspect that it is a "3L" but would like to confirm this by engine number.

Is there somewhere I can look up the engine number to find out?

I understand that the VIN and engine number usually match unless the engine has been replaced.
