Rugged X Hilux idling high

Bit_Locker

Hi All

Sorry if this has been asked before but my new HiLux Rugged X has suddenly started to idle high (900 rpms). I know they do a DPF burn-off but its been weeks and I have travel more than enough at high speed to burn it off (car has only done 2,900K's). I've checked the idle high switch and that seems to do nothing i.e. it doesn't make the car idle high if I engage it. Does this mean there is something wrong with the car? I've noticed fuel use is up slightly from 9.7 to  11.1.

As its brand new, wouldn't a trip to Toyota be the wise move to make, rather than have everyone second guess what it could be , such as : you haven't got the A/C on ?

Hi there,

The ute 2017 model 2.8ltr i drive at work does also idles high at times I don't know

why it does it. It seems the way it is designed to run.  It could be over 1000x even without A/C on.

If you think it is unusual better see the dealership being still under warranty.

Good luck

Noel

Did you end up finding out why it is idling up. Mine just started (Oct 2018 Rogue) to idle at 1100 RPMs, mainly in the mornings. After I have driven it for about 10 minutes it is fine. There is no difference in operation of the vehicle just the idle high at start of day. At end of work at end of day it starts and idles fine about 900 RPMs. It didn't do it last winter so car booked in to have a look and chat. Disregard this post I found problem. I didn't know about the idle up button on the right hand side. For some reason it had been pushed / turned on. Turned off now Hilux back to normal.

Mine is new in March 2020, just 1400 miles on the clock, this happens too often and revs up to 1300 at idle, also engine management light came on also, dealer told me it was a sensor fault and replaced it 2 weeks ago, the high idle is back again today, if I had known this is what they do I would not have bought it, very frustrating. Toyota need to change this quick!!
