Hi Folks

I have an Avalon Grande June 2000 model. Can anyone help me with locating the OBD outlet ????

None of the Toyota Avalon's built & sold in Australia were OBDII

BUT, they are OBD of sorts. The connector plug is under the drivers footwell, near the kick panel. Right hand side.

I was looking for exactly this.

Plugged a Bluetooth OBD2 scanner in but I can't get it to read the ECU. Could be the unit.

What can we read from this port and what do we need to read it?

I'm thinking of trying Supercheap to see if they can get anything from it.

Where did you hear this ? The OBD protocol was standardized in 1996 and all cars manufactured then and the years following were all OBDII compliant.

OBD 1 preceded 1996 obviously.

Here's a little something I found

Any OBDII device should work ok. It just may be a faulty device you have there. Are you able to borrow one from someone else ?

They are pretty cheap anyway. I'd suggest you buy one and just keep it handy. You will use it from time to time.

That's US isn't it?

2000 Avalon isn't listed as compliant at

https://obd2australia.com.au/obd2-car-list/

Many of the cars listed there are 2006+

"(However in some cases with cars between 1995-2005 they can have a plug that looks like this but cannot be accessed easily as they did not have the full OBD2 protocol.)

Here in Australia most our cars are from Japan, Europe or made in Australia for some models.

The below is when they made it compulsory for cars made for these markets to have OBD2.

When did OBD2 start – All cars made for the Australian market from 2005-2006 – So if your car was new in Australia after 2005 it will have OBD2 and you can use an OBD2 scan tool."

Hmmm, that's really interesting. My apologies for that. I assumed this would be the same across the board for global manufacturing. Your connection port does look like an OBDII port though so If an OBDII reader can plug into it and not read it, then what will ?

I suspect it may have to be done at a dealer unless there is a software driven device for such a specific vehicle. I'll have a little more of a dig and see what I find.

This has me intrigued now.

Techstream running on Windows with that USB adapter (at least).

It'll do much more but way less convenient.
